The Environment Authority on Wednesday marked the conclusion of an environment protection competition that saw the participation of more than 1,000 school students from different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
The closing ceremony of the competition was held under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority.
The competition's drawing contest attracted more than 300 students, while the environment video filming contest saw the participation of more than 500 students. More than 300 students took part in the environmental essay writing contest.
The competition aimed to foster a sense of responsibility towards the environment in young generations.
Eng Suleiman al Akhzami, Deputy Chairman of the Environment Authority, delivered the Authority’s address, confirming that the initiative was the result of a partnership between the Environment Authority and the Ministry of Education, driven by a belief in the importance of raising a generation that is aware of environmental issues and conscious of its responsibility to protect the country’s natural resources. He stressed that the ceremony was not simply an occasion to honour winners, but a celebration of the noble values that students had expressed through their creativity, adding that true investment in the environment begins with investment in people.
Among the top winners, Turki al Hasani took first place in the drawing competition, Amal al Ajmi claimed first place in the environmental essay competition, and Saba al Aghbari won first place in the environmental film competition.
Nuzha al Balushi, Director of the Communication and Media Department at the Environment Authority and head of the 'Khalik Haris' initiative, explained that the initiative was launched in its first phase as a national awareness campaign implemented by more than 30 government and private sector entities, reaching more than 10 million people across various platforms. She added that the initiative later developed into a comprehensive programme targeting students from grade one through grade twelve, noting that the Authority will continue to develop the initiative to support the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

He noted that awareness visits to nature reserves and tree-planting campaigns helped connect environmental concepts with practical application.
